Our Approach

A cycle, not a straight line: Ownership, Learning, Action.

Borrowed from SINA and adapted in Bukavu. This is the thinking behind everything SENTA does.

Our approach

Ownership. Learning. Action.

At SENTA, entrepreneurship begins with the person. Young people build better, longer-lasting solutions once they understand themselves, take responsibility for their choices, and learn from the world around them.

01. Ownership

Start with yourself. We make space for young people to understand who they are, what matters to them and what they want to give back, through self-discovery, reflection, leadership and mindset work. At SENTA, young people don’t just receive a program. They help build the community around them.

02. Learning

Learn by doing. Scholars take on responsibilities, work together, test their assumptions, make mistakes and learn from them. They explore community challenges through problem identification, customer discovery and design thinking. Mentors guide, and the learner stays at the center.

03. Action

Turn learning into something real. Scholars turn what they have learned into initiatives, prototypes and social enterprises. They test ideas with real people, learn from feedback and improve. Promising ventures keep going with mentoring, incubation and networks.

A cycle, not a straight line

Ownership leads to learning. Learning leads to action. Action creates new experience.

That new experience leads to more learning, more ownership and better action. That is the spirit of evolutionary education. We don’t expect young people to leave SENTA with everything figured out. We want them to leave able to keep learning, take initiative and build.

How the program works in practice

How Ownership → Learning → Action plays out day to day.

Un-learning

Letting go of limiting beliefs and starting to set personal goals. Every scholar begins here.

Real roles

Scholars take on real operational responsibilities at SENTA, such as logistics, finance and event coordination. They learn leadership by doing it, not by simulating it.

Life & business coaching

Personal goals are broken into concrete steps, with regular check-ins, peer support and life coaching alongside business guidance.

Ideation & prototyping

Teams form around shared community challenges. Mentors guide the process through design thinking and lean-startup customer discovery.

Enterprise & growth

Ideas that hold up become real enterprises, with ongoing mentoring as they enter the local market.

Inspired by SINA, rooted in Bukavu

The model evolves because the community evolves.

SENTA grew out of our founders’ own experience at the Social Innovation Academy (SINA) in Uganda. We adapted what we learned there to the reality of young people in Eastern DR Congo, and SENTA keeps changing through the people and communities we work with.
