Empowering Congolese Youth: The Social Entrepreneurship Academy's Mission to Combat Unemployment and Foster Innovation in DR Congo

The Social Entrepreneurship Academy – SENTA as a “for Impact” organization based in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kivu Region with the purpose to tackle unemployment and fixed mindset amongst the youth in DR Congo through social entrepreneurship and envisioning at “a Congo free of youth unemployment”. We empower youth and enable them to find solution to the most pressing issues faced in their respective communities and turn those solutions into social enterprises for their own sustainability as they are solving challenges in the communities.

The problem

We aim to complement to our education system, that offers more space for theoretical than practical contributions resulting in a growing rate of youth unemployment in the Democratic Republic of the Congo given that there are stereotypes about … by creating a self-organized and independent learning space, where disadvantaged young people are taken to unleash their potential for positive change as social entrepreneurs. Through our self-organization and learner-centered design approach, we take into account the interests of learners, their passions and help them set their life goals through “life-coaching”. They then receive an orientation in entrepreneurship consolidated by “business-coaching and mentoring”. This is seen perpetuated by the self-drive which pushes these young people to take initiatives in the direction of self-learning where they are accompanied by mentors and trainers that we make available to them.

SENTA places particular emphasis on the promotion of gender and the empowerment of women, as it is the main engine of socio-economic development.
